Your Personal Buddy

Create your personal buddy, give it sources to speak from, use it in private and in Agora, and narrow or dissolve it.

For everyoneTalk · page 21 of 35

A personal buddy is one personal AI colleague, yours alone. It answers when you ask, and never acts on its own. Naming it is the whole act; everything after that, you do together. Each person can have one buddy. This page shows you how to create it, what it can see, and how to keep it in check.

Before you start#

  • Open Talk › Personal Buddy. On the Command Center, Create your buddy leads here too.
  • Every person can have one buddy, created and governed by that person.

Understand the two halves of the promise#

  • In private, with you — The full desk. In your private chat, your buddy sees everything you can see, company knowledge included, always inside your own permissions and never one step beyond them: your desk, your documents, the Company Brain as far as you may read it, and whatever you entrust to it.
  • In the open, with everyone else — Only its own sources. In a room, with colleagues present, even when you are the one speaking, it answers only from what you entrusted to it. Your desk stays home. It says it is an AI, and whose buddy it is.

At birth, your buddy receives a copy of the permissions you hold: never more than yours, never admin. That copy is re-checked at every turn. If you lose an access, your buddy loses it too.

Create your buddy#

  1. 1

    Open Talk › Personal Buddy.

The page says You don't have a buddy yet.

  2. 2

Under Your buddy's name, type a name, or take one of the suggestions under Or take one.

The name must be unique, because that is how mentions find it. Its face is drawn as you type. The page also shows the handle colleagues will use to call it in Agora.

  3. 3

Read Before you name it — the promise has two halves.

  4. 4

Click Seal the birth of ….

The page says your buddy was born.

01Naming your buddy is the whole act of creating it.
Important

Your buddy's face and name are sealed at birth. They never change again.

Walk the path#

After the birth, the page shows a path of four stops: Named, Read the mirror, Entrust its sources and Say hello.

02Three stops are left after the birth.
  1. 1

Read the mirror — see what your buddy inherited from you. The permissions copied from you are listed in plain words, grouped by kind, for example Search the Company Brain, as far as you may read it. Click I trust it, next, or Keep it this way.

03The mirror lists, in plain words, what your buddy may do.
  1. 2

Entrust its sources — pick the documents your buddy may speak from in rooms, then click Entrust. You can revoke them at any moment, and the change takes effect immediately. You can also Skip for now.

04What you entrust is what your buddy can speak from in rooms.
  1. 3

Say hello — ask your buddy something here, or click Open the private chat.

At the end, the page says Path complete.

Talk to your buddy in private#

  1. 1

On Personal Buddy, click Open private chat. On the Command Center, Chat with … does the same.

  2. 2

Ask what you need. In private, your buddy knows your whole desk, within your permissions.

05Everything about your buddy is on one page.

Call your buddy in Agora#

  1. 1

On Personal Buddy, copy the handle with the copy button next to it.

  2. 2

In a discussion, type the handle.

Your buddy answers only from what you entrusted to it. Anyone in the room can mention it, and it answers them from those documents too.

06In a room, your buddy speaks only from its own sources.

If you entrusted nothing, your buddy has nothing of its own to answer from in a room, and says so.

You can also ask your buddy to open a restricted Agora room for you.

Entrust or revoke a document#

  1. 1

On Personal Buddy, under Entrusted to it, click Entrust a document.

The picker opens. Entrusting is the ordinary document share, pointed at your buddy, with no expiry: the document stays entrusted until you revoke it.

  2. 2

    Pick the document.

It shows who entrusted it, when, and what your buddy may do with it.

  3. 3

To take it back, click Revoke, then confirm. It takes effect immediately.

A Private document you entrust is shown to your buddy only.

Narrow or realign its permissions#

The mirror lists the permissions your buddy holds today. Click Show the list to see them.

  • To remove one, click Remove, then confirm. Only a realign can give it back.
  • To start again from what you hold now, click Realign to my current permissions, then Realign now. Anything you removed comes back, and nothing outside your own permissions can enter.

There is no way to add a single permission. Removing narrows; realigning re-aligns.

Shape its character#

Click Character Console to open your buddy's page, where you set its personality.

Dissolve your buddy#

  1. 1

Under Ending the relationship, click Dissolve ….

The dialog explains that your buddy, its mirror and its entrustments end together, at once and for good. The act is recorded.

  2. 2

Type your buddy's name to confirm.

  3. 3

Click Dissolve for good, or Keep it.

07Dissolving ends the relationship for good.

Your one place for a personal buddy becomes free again, and another buddy can be born.

What you will see#

That name is already answering to someone. — click Clear and try another.
That name won't do. and You already have a buddy.
A note when the name cannot be reached by a mention: dots and hyphens must join letters or digits.
This mirror was born empty. — your permissions and what a buddy may hold did not overlap at birth. It still knows your desk in private, and you can realign when that changes.
A note when you lost a permission your buddy needs to work. It comes back when you hold it again, or with a realign, never on its own.
This page could not read your buddy.
Entrusting failed, Revoke failed or Dissolution failed.
A buddy bonded to you by an admin cannot be narrowed, realigned or dissolved here. Ask an admin to undo the bond.

Good to know#

  • Your buddy has no schedule of its own. It wakes only for what you ask.
  • It always presents itself as an AI, and as your personal buddy.
  • A buddy never holds some permissions, by construction: administering users, roles or the system; searching the web; creating or deleting agents; project machinery; anything that runs while you are away.
  • On the Organization chart, your buddy is drawn under you. No other agent ever consults a buddy: it works for its person alone.
